Sushi Sushi removes artificial colours and flavourings across its entire Australian food range

Sushi Sushi has become the first Australian Asian food retailer to remove artificial colours and flavourings across its entire Australian food range, marking a significant milestone in the brand's ongoing commitment to quality, transparency and continual improvement.

The achievement follows almost two years of recipe reformulation across every food product sold in Australia. While Sushi Sushi has always met Australian food safety and regulatory standards, the initiative reflects the brand's commitment to continually raising its own standards and delivering food that aligns with evolving customer expectations.

Built on its longstanding Real Food. Ready to Go. philosophy, the change reinforces Sushi Sushi's focus on serving fresh, high-quality food made with carefully selected ingredients.

Sushi Sushi CEO Stephen Anders said the initiative was driven by listening to customers and continually improving the brand's offering.

"Our customers increasingly want food made with simpler ingredients and without artificial colours or flavourings. This is about continuing to evolve alongside those expectations."

"We've spent almost two years carefully reformulating our recipes across the entire range. This isn't about fixing a problem - it's about continually improving our food and delivering on what Real Food. Ready to Go. stands for."

While most customers won't notice a difference, a small number of products – including seaweed salad and tobiko, may have a slightly different colour or flavour. This is a natural result of removing artificial additives and reflects the use of ingredients in a more natural form.

The initiative builds on Sushi Sushi's broader commitment to responsible sourcing, food integrity and operational excellence, including:

  • 100% ASC-certified

  • 100% RSPCA Approved

  • A nationally integrated digital food safety system that supports consistent quality, traceability and compliance across almost 200 stores

  • Ongoing partnerships with Too Good To Go and SecondBite, helping contribute more than 112,000 meals to Australians experiencing food

With nearly three decades of experience, Sushi Sushi has established itself as one of Australia's leading premium grab-and-go food retailers. Guided by its core values of respect, innovation, collaboration and execution, the brand continues to invest in initiatives that enhance food quality, customer trust and operational excellence.

Recently acquired by Genki Global Dining Concepts, Sushi Sushi now benefits from the expertise of one of the world's leading Japanese-origin sushi businesses, further strengthening the brand's commitment to quality, innovation and responsible business practices.

The removal of artificial colours and flavourings represents another step in that journey, giving customers greater confidence that every Sushi Sushi food product sold in Australia reflects the brand's commitment to continually improving the food it serves.
