Iconic US sandwich brand Firehouse Subs is set to open its first Australian restaurant at Westfield Mt Gravatt Shopping Centre in early July 2026, marking the long-awaited debut of one of North America's fastest-growing quick-service brands. Hoarding has gone up at the new store, signalling the countdown to launch is officially on.
The Brisbane opening kicks off an ambitious Australian rollout led by ASX-listed master franchise partner Retail Food Group (RFG). More Australian locations are in the pipeline, with additional stores expected to open throughout the year.
Firehouse Subs is owned by Restaurant Brands International (RBI), the global parent company of brands including Burger King, Tim Hortons and Popeyes. Their Firehouse Subs network spans more than 1,300 restaurants across the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Mexico, Albania, the United Arab Emirates and Brazil, making it one of the largest specialty sub brands in the world.
The brand was founded in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1994 by former firefighter brothers Chris and Robin Sorensen, Firehouse Subs has spent more than three decades building a fiercely loyal following in the United States and Canada. Now Firehouse Subs is bringing that standard to Australia with seriously good subs, built on a simple promise: Australians have never experienced a sub brand quite like it.
This same product and standard will land at Westfield Mt Gravatt in early July, entering Australia's competitive $1.7 billion sandwich market as a true category disruptor.
Firehouse Subs General Manager Tracy Steinwand said Westfield Mt Gravatt is the perfect launch site for Firehouse Subs in Australia.
